Backup Sump Pump - What is best Option?

Having a backup plan for your basement’s sump pump in the event of a power failure can save you thousands of dollars on basement cleanup, equipment damages, and furniture & belongings damage.  You have several options which include, abattery operated backup pump, a Water Commander™ pump powered by your homewater pressure, or a backup generator which can provide power for your normal pump.

A battery backup pump, while the most inexpensive initially requires some maintenance to make sure it will work.  These units should be inspected twice per year, and batteries will need to be replaced every 3-5 years.  The electric motor can become inoperable from non-use.  And an important consideration is the pump will only run as long as you have battery power – typically 4 to 7 hours on a brand new battery.
A Water Commander backup pump requires no power to operate – it runs off of your city water pressure.  These units cost a little more but provide the benefit of no maintenance, no battery replacements, no moving parts, and a higher pumping capacity than battery operated pumps.  You should still get these pumps tested annually to give yourself peace of mind.
The most expensive option would be to have a standbygenerator provide power to your sump pump.  While it is more expensive, it also does more than just work your sump pump – your standby generator could also provide power to either just critical circuits in your house such as refrigerators, heating and cooking appliances, and some lighting – or could provide full backup for your entire house.
Stashluk Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning can help you decide which solution is right for your situation and your budget.  We are authorized dealers/installers of WaterCommander™ backup sump pumps and Generac generators and can provide worry free installation and maintenance on whatever solution you choose.

Minor Plumbing Fixes Can $ave You Money

Tired of some of the nagging plumbing problems you never get around to fixing? Well they can be costing you money too. Why not call Stashluk and get them fixed.

One common problem is a dripping faucet. Did you know a faucet dripping at the rate on one drip per second can waste 2,700 gallons of water per year? Add to that the cost to heat that water (if it s hot water leak) and that many municipalities charge your sewer fees based on water used, and it all starts to add up.

That sticking toilet handle, or nighttime mystery flush can cost you more water and money. How about that slow drain, or the one dripping under your sink. Dripping pipes can cause cabinet and framing damage from rot quicker than you think, so fix it as soon as possible.

How about that dripping or corroded connection you keep seeing in the basement, if that breaks when you are not home, the damage could be major. While you are in the basement, think about your sump pump. Is it operating properly?, Do you have a backup pump should it fail? Is it time for a new water heater?

Whether you are thinking of selling your house, or just want to live in it without the inconveniences of plumbing problems, Stashluk can solve your plumbing problems – from everyday fixes to major upgrades and repairs.
